Remo Drive | Out of Studio Review
This is Vincent and today I will be reviewing Remo Drive's live session performed at Audiotree.
This band has just recently taken to the limelight as their debut album "Greatest Hits" was recently released and caught much attention. And for good reason. Their emo punk style combined with a pop vibe has sparked a revival in this sad, self loathing style of music. While their lyrics are mellow and had a depressed attitude to them, the beat and musical compilation contradicts the message. This video by Audiotree shows you this band at their rawest form.
I want to really focus on one song that ties this whole performance together. It's the last song played in this performance called "Yer Killin' Me"
This happens to be their most popular song that received the most attention from critics. I'll start off by saying that their live performance is MUCH better than their studio recorded version. This goes for all their songs. Whoever mixed their band's album really didn't do a great job of balancing all of the different instruments in the final production and many other people have also critiqued this issue. Although, their live performance for Audiotree was nothing short of amazing.
"Yer Killin' Me" sums up this bands performance and style. Their lyrics are somewhat gritty and depressing but laced with enough angst to add humor. What really caught me was that the song become wordless guitar riffs about halfway through. Halfway through the song, lyrics end and guitars take over the vocal foreground. The precision that the band displayed on the live performance was amazing. And the singer deserves much credit for being able to keep up such a changing vocal pattern. Their live performance is simply amazing and the studio recording cannot compete.
Dude, I've seen a lot of posts on Tumblr about these guys recently but I've never gotten around to listening to them and I gotta say I'm impressed! They definitely got a unique sound to them that I really dig, thank you for the post about them! Also, I love Audiotree, so many great bands that I love have been on there and I'm truly thankful for their presence.
ReplyDeleteI hope at some point I can hear this live version because listening to the video of Yer Killen me does not seem to do the band justice at all, If you happen to have a Link or something to a live version please share it. I love all types of music and this sounded like it had loads of potential.
