Rush || Live Review


Okay, so for this blog post, I'm going to take a look at one of the bigger bands in history. Masterfully orchestrated music by one of the more common prog-rock bands, Rush. I was showed Rush's music when I was very young by my father. He had grown up listening them and now so have I. I believe Rush to be one of those bands that everyone can appreciate a few of their songs and the other songs are for their more niche fans. Their Moving Pictures album will be the focus of this post. Recorded and mastered beautifully for it's time, it really added depth to what you could achieve in music. Synthesizers mixed with tradition rock instruments blended a rock sound with a almost techno type sound. And they capture this really well in their live show.

I went to their Time Machine Tour when I was a kid. It was actually my first concert I went to by a big time band. I absolutely loved the show and it remains at one of my favorite live bands ever since. The atmosphere they created was had me in awe. The show was in an open venue that had the stars shining through the stadium. Their sound, from what I can remember, sounded like it did on the album, just beautiful. They played all their songs from the Moving Pictures album and they couldn't have chosen a better album to play. They had a skit with Paul Rudd as their background video and it was a very comedic video that wrapped the concert up well.

Slightly Stoopid has to be one of my all-time favorite bands. A mix of Reggae, Ska, and with some rock and Pop influences, they create a very unique sound from the base Reggae genre. They originate from California and have been in the mainstream light for years now. Their earlier music had a more tradition Reggae sound while their more recent ventures have taken on a more Poppy influence to them. They have expanded and experimented with different sounds and succeeded in perfecting them. Their studio music is well mixed and is an amazing contrast to a majority of Reggae artists who embrace a grungy type style to their in-studio recordings. I started listening to Slightly Stoopid my Sophomore year of high school and have been to two of their live shows since then. Tool Live Show 2016

Tool has been a very influential band over the last 20 years not only for bands, but aspiring artists. With a different approach to old concepts, their music holds a very mysterious independence to it that many other bands to to capture, but fall short with. Starting out as a heavy early 1990's metal band, they started to venture more into an Art Rock style that seems to have stuck around and made them who they are today as a band. While an album as not been released by them in 11 years, their live shows are a constant reminder that they are around and here to stay for a while longer. The show I will be covering is from their tour in 2016. They hadn't toured in a couple years and it was a very hot subject not only among Tool fans, but the music scene in general.
